Copper coin PCB for thermal management
In modern multilayer printed circuit boards, the problem of removing excess heat from high-power components is becoming increasingly important. If your project contains such high power transistors or integrated circuits for which the heat dissipation using an array of vias becomes insufficient, you can embed a copper heat sink directly into the PCB body. This unique technology is called "copper coin PCB". There are at least two technologies for embedding a copper plate into a printed circuit board - sealing in a package with subsequent metallization of the surface, and pressing into a plated hole with force. You can see the flatness differences for both cases on the picture below. The maximum possible dimensions of a copper plate depend on the thickness of the printed circuit board. For reference, you can refer to the chart below. Please contact our engineers if you want to design and/or place the copper coin PCB order and need further information.
